Extreme Sport - Heaven Or Heli?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

A game of snooker on a Sunday afternoon is quite enough sport for some - for others they like their activities to be a little more energetic with the more risk the better!

Biking for example continues to grow in popularity each year, often attracting a younger audience as it develops. As this younger audience grows, some develop into the adrenaline junkies that make others gasp in fear and amazement.

Cross country biking, stunt riding, bicycle racing and heli-biking are some of the most popular summertime extreme bicycle sports. Several ski and snowboarding resorts offer great opportunities for outdoor sports enthusiasts to continue their enjoyment of the great outdoors year round. Whether it’s glacier skiing, ice diving, snowcat skiing, heli-skiing or heli-biking, you’re sure to find something to pique your interest.

Stunt Riding

Stunt cyclists are often the most recognised because of their time in the air rather than on the ground. In some cases, the longer the cyclist is off of the bike, the more impressive the stunt. Some may stand in the seat or on pegs welded to the rear of the bike. Special bikes are often created just for stunts and the people who love them. Stunts range from simple wheelies to very elaborate tricks, jumps or flips. Some stunts have easy to recognise names like ‘no footers,’ ‘no handers’ or ‘bar spins.’ Other, more elaborate stunts have names like ‘540′, ‘X-Up’ or various types of ‘airing.’

BMX Racing

Motocross racing became popular during the mid to late 1920s. At that time, it consisted of off-road motor bikes ridden on rugged terrain. Bicycle Motocross, or BMX, became popular in the late 1970s and began as youngsters pretending to be their favourite Motocross driver. In today’s sporting arenas, BMX means much more than racing bikes. Now riders may specialise in the type of track they prefer to ride.

Heli-Biking

Heli-biking is a newer form of extreme cycling that involves you, your bike, a few snacks and a helicopter. The helicopter takes you to the top of a mountain that is otherwise inaccessible without climbing gear. After you’re geared up - you’re off! The journey back toward civilisation is often several hours long and requires that you bring your own snacks and drinks. Energy bars and bottled water are usually the food and drink of choice.

Ever wonder what happens at your favourite ski catskiing resort during the summer? During the winter, people enjoy heli-skiing in areas like Andorra in the Pyrenees Mountains, Whistler in British Columbia or the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. The same skiers who enjoyed heli ski asked the helicopter pilots if they would drop cyclists off at the same place they dropped skiers during the winter. Summertime obviously doesn’t allow for great ski conditions, so the activities change. Instead of skiing, adrenaline junkies hop on a helicopter with their bikes and continue their heart-pounding trek down the mountains.

Biking Safety

Safety should always be first and foremost during any biking excursion. Helmets, pads and proper shoes are very important to every cyclist’s health and well-being. Just like any other sport, protective clothing and equipment can prevent serious injury or even death. A properly fitting helmet can help make the difference between an enjoyable ride and a trip to the emergency room - taking safety into consideration could mean the difference between enjoyable heli - or hell!

Sports Gambling Odds

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

The most important rule in online sports gambling odds could easily be to find value. A value line is worthless if the team doesn’t have a substantial chance of winning that bet, but it wouldn’t be a value bet in the first place if that was the case.

Online sports gambling bettors and not just sports handicappers, so we understand the need for action. Most Online Wagering sports bettors are unlikely to watch a day of baseball games without at least some small action on a game. So go ahead, bet consistently, but make sure you never risk more than 1% of your bankroll on any one bet, and make sure that you have enough cash for that big value bet, when it does come around.

Some would say that any winning bet is value. They may have a point and if you can constantly pick winners, you will of course make money. However, this approach is unrealistic, you will lose at some point or have a losing streak and your good work will most likely be undone. Look at the bet payout as a product and you always want to pay as little as possible (in the form of bet stake) for that product. You are looking at the best value for your money.

As a bettor you will need to decide if you want to bet at the wagering odds turned out by the bookmaker. You need to ask yourself if the sport odds being presented are better than the ‘true odds’ - if so, then they represent value.

There is a simple formula for assessing value as follows:

Estimate (true wagering odds) expressed as a percentage X the available odds (in decimal form) = must be greater than 100.

Use the following example: Team A faces Team B in an Major League Baseball game. On the Money Line Team A is a big underdog, listed at +300 or 3/1. We estimate that the true wagering odds of Team A winning this game, however, is +200 or 2/1.

Team A’s true chances of winning this game expressed as a percentage is 33(%) multiplied by the available wagering odds (3/1) in decimal format (4.0). This comes to a total of 132 (33%x4) which is greater than a hundred and therefore represents value. To a degree you can work out what your stake should be based on how much over ‘100′ the value figure is.

Remember, however, that there is big difference to backing a 2/1 true wagering sportsbook odds shot at 3/1 and a 50/1 true wagering odds shot at 80/1. The ‘value’ figures here will be similar, yet the chances will not. You need to use common sense when evaluating your stake.

Sports Betting Rules

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Betting is done through Sportsbooks (US) or Bookmakers (UK) entities that accept bets. You can bet on the outcome of several sporting events, such as; Baseball betting, Basketball betting, Football betting, Tennis betting, Hockey betting, Snooker and Soccer betting games.

To place a sport bet, you go to a sportsbook, physical or online. You could also bet over the phone with many sportsbooks. Note that a sports book or sportsbook is not the same as an oddsmaker. The sportsbook simply accepts sports bets. An oddsmaker is a person who sets the sports betting odds.

You need to state what you are betting on by making a selection, the type of bet and the amount you are wagering. Your selection will obviously depend on the odds offered, so you will want to examine the range of odds available before you make a decision.

There are many types of bets you can place. Some sportsbooks may offer more betting varieties and combinations than others. Below is a list of the more common types of bets.

Straight bet or Single.

This is the simplest and most common bet. You bet on a winner at given odds.

Point Spread.

This bet lets you bet on a winner from two selections who have been made equal by allocating appropriate points to the underdog team. The Point Spread is the number of points allocated and is shown with a + sign for the favorite and a - sign for the underdog. The favorite has to win by more than the Point Spread for you to win; otherwise you lose your bet even if the team wins. Inversely, if you bet for the underdog, that team has to lose by less than the Point Spread for you to win. If the favorite wins by the exact Point Spread, then it is a push or a tie. You get your bet back. To eliminate a tie result, the oddsmakers sometimes include a half point spread. Since scores use full numbers only, one team has to win outright.

Buy Points.

Also, to buy Key Points. Move the Point Spread favorably at a price.

The Money line.

This establishes the odds for each team but inversely proportional to what would have been a Point Spread, and is indicated by a + for the underdog and a - sign for the favorite. Say team A is favorite and quoted at -180 and B is the underdog at + 120. The bets offered would be 10:18 odds-on for the favorite, and 12:10 for the underdog. For every $180 you bet on A you would win $100 or lose $180, but for every $100 you bet on B you would win $120 or lose $100.

Total.

A bet for the number of sport points scored in the game by both teams combined, including points scored in overtime.

Over/Under.

A bet that the combined number of points scored by the two teams in the game will be Over or Under the total set by the oddsmaker.

Parlay or Accumulator.

A multiple bet. A kind of ‘let-it-ride’ bet. Making simultaneous selections on two or more games with the intent of pressing the winnings of the first win on the bet of the following game selected, and so on. All the selections made must win for you to win the parlay. If a game is a tie, postponed or cancelled, your parlay is automatically reduced by one selection; a double parlay becomes a straight bet, a triple parlay becomes a double. A parlay bet can yield huge dividends if won.

Teaser.

It is like a parlay, but with the option to add or subtract points (called ‘moving the line’) from one or more Spread bets. When betting a teaser additional points are either added to the underdog or subtracted from the favorite. The odds vary according to the number of points the spread is moved and the number of teams combined to form the teaser. As in the parlay, all selections must win for the teaser to win. Teasers odds are usually worse than the parlays.

If-wager.

A bet that allows the bettor to make a second wager, up to an equal amount, pending a win on the first selection.

Open Wager.

Open wagers allow the bettor to play teasers or parlays making a selection at different times and even different days.

Future.

A bet on a future event. At the start of each season, the sportsbooks give out odds for teams to win a certain championship. The odds change as the game date approaches and in most cases get shorter, but if you win you get paid at the original odds that you took. This is possibly one of the most profitable bets if you have considerable knowledge of the sport that you are betting on including the players, and a good sense of judgment.

Exotic Bets.

Betting on unusual events. Some sportsbooks post odds and take bets on a wide variety of other sports related events and activities. A few others will take bets on just about anything you can think of.

Proposition Bet or Prop Bet.

An offer of bets at odds and conditions chosen by the sportsbook, usually on ‘Exotic’ bets.

Ski Holidays - The Different Types Of Ski Activities

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

As flights to Europe become cheaper and as the pound becomes stronger there are an increasing number of people deciding to go off on Ski Holidays. Traditionally skiing had been restricted to the wealthy but there are an increasing number of young people that can now afford to have a skiing break. Ski holidays are attracting a new audience. When I started skiing I was daunted by the variety of types of different ski activities and was afraid to ask. Here is a brief introduction to the different types of skiing that are out there.

Skiing is not just about hammering down the slopes in the fastest time possible. Alpine freestyle focuses on finesse and performing tricks on the slopes. It has been referred to as acrobatics on skis. Skiers use jumps and rails to perform aerial tricks that are similar to those performed in urban areas on skateboards.

Cross country, cat skiing or Nordic Skiing is a type of skiing that is performed worldwide. It is probably the most prevalent form of skiing as it does not require a special ski area, it can therefore be performed anywhere that has snow. Cross country skis are long and thin to help distribute the weight of the skier. Cross country skiers often use their ski poles to propel themselves along as well pushing the skis sideways in a technique similar to ice skating.

There are many different types of snow skiing. Apart from traditional downhill skiing, here are some other types of snow skiing option. heli ski, is very adventurous type of skiing. Heliskiing is downhill skiing but it done on a remote mountains reached by helicopter. Cross- country skiing, is a traditional type of skiing on snow in all types of terrains, but mainly it is done on flat terrains. Snow cat skiing, in this type of skiing skiers are delivered to the top of the mountain in a snow cat and ski down on the ungroomed trails. Snowcat ski is for expert skiers. One more unconventional type of skiing is snow shoe skiing, it is walking on soft snow without sinking by wearing a snow shoe which is crossed with thongs.

People off on their ski holidays may be presented with the opportunity to attempt ski jumping. Ski jumping or Nordic jumping is a competitive sport that involves the skier travelling down a specially constructed ski ramp and off a jump at the end in an attempt to achieve a further distance than the competitors. The ski jumper uses specially designed skis that are wider and longer than normal skis.

Off-Piste or Randonee skiing is when a skier leaves the marked runs or Pistes in search of freshly dropped snow. It is an activity that is done by advanced skiers. This is because the skier is never fully aware of the types of terrain they will face and have to be competent enough to deal with an enormous variety of situations. The skier may travel to areas that are prone to avalanches and as a result the practice is banned at many US ski resorts. It is legal everywhere but ski resorts will offer advice on where to avoid. It is strongly recommended that you adhere to this advice.

Telemark skiing utilises flexible ski boots that do are not attached to the skis at the heel. Named after the Telemark region of Norway and dates back to 1868 when the father of modern skiing Sandre Norheim used this type of binding when he competed in a ski jump competition. Since then alpine ski fittings have gradually replaced the telemark system as the telemark skis are better suited to rolling terrain than the steeper downhill runs. Telemark skiing is physically more demanding than Alpine skiing.

As well as being a recreational activity for civilians, skiing is also utilised as a training activity for the military. Warfare has also taken place on skis and ski troops have played a key role in military activity. Records were made of ski warfare as early as the thirteenth century. More recently ski troops helped Finland remain independent from Russia during the Winter War. They also helped repel the German forces during the Lapland War.

How to Choose a Sportsbook

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

The savvy bettor will expect the most out of his mate: demanding availability just prior to Monday nights kickoff-this is just one of several requirements. On Sunday morning your sportsbook MUST be on call to serve your every need. A matter of fact, this is to be expected 24/7 and even the 12 months a year.

Many bettors have now stumbled upon the wonderful world of offshore betting and football scores but in so doing, it’s often difficult to decide which betting house is the best in fulfilling your needs. After all there are some 500 plus sports books operating offshore. Some are featured internet while others remain strictly accessible via phone.

1) SEARCHING FOR THE BEST DEAL - You don’t need the fear, there is still hope along the way and It is just a matter of knowing where to find it. Expert advise is never out of reach when looking for the perfect books . Finding that expert advise, however, can Sometimes be as daunting a task as searching out the most desirable place to wager. The top sources on the Net for finding un-bias information as it relates to the offshore Gaming industry are few and far between, but alas there are some that do stand out and demand the gambler`s attention. Ask The Bookie is now considered the number one authority when it comes to offshore.

2) THE BEST SPORTSBOOK IS WAITING - Love at first site means a great deal when looking for the perfect offshore sportsbook. A catchy site will entice the web surfer to explore further the other features which make this particular operation unique..A sloppy disorganized and even neglected website suggests the owners are either disinterested or unable to keep up with the innovations of this fast-paced industry.

3) FIND THE MOST IMPORTANT SITE - In the world of sportsbooks, IMPORTANT means BETTER. Usually, but not always. We cannot neglect the “mom and pop” type shops that have public with excellent accommodations over the years. A IMPORTANT sportsbook more often than not affords the security that comes with years of exponential growth and profit making.

Internet Sports Betting

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

There are a number of internet sports betting sites. Some have been online for years. You’ll find that most internet sports betting business operate or are licensed by exotic countries like Costa Rica, Barbados or Antigua. This is pretty normal, internet sports betting are regulated almost like regular gambling sports in the United States. Don’t be frightened; it isn’t illegal to place an online bet with licensed internet sports betting site.

The internet sports betting industry has come a long way in shedding its shady image of Big Bubba beating up betters with his baseball bat for not paying up on losing bets.

While there is nothing wrong with betting on whatever event one so chooses, these types of wagers do not belong at internet sport betting site.

Most internet sports betting betters thrive in the research and studying that is involved before placing a bet on a sporting event. It has become a skill to understand and investigate the meaning behind the betting odds and the likelihood that a given team, horse or player will win.

To offer pure chance bets, such as selecting the last Survivor, is an insult to the internet sports betting industry. It could perpetuate an image that Offshore sportsbook betters are out-of-control gamblers who have to bet on anything and everything to make a fast buck.

That internet sports betting sites offer these types of bets feeds into that image. They are inadvertently hindering the perception that people should have about internet sports betting: That it requires skill and hours of research.

Sportsbook odds increase your chances of winning

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

There are two important ways of interpreting probability. One has to be Point Spreads and the other money lines. Though betting is almost the same in both sportsbook betting odds, because you bet on who is going to win, point spreads differentiate because they establish a number of points in which the winner needs to have over the loosing team.

For example, the Patriots are playing against the Raiders. You are betting for the Raiders that have a -6 on their points when the Jets have +6 points as showed by the established sportsbook odds. Now the Raiders need to beat the Jets with more than 6 points so you can win your bet. If the final score ends up tie then there is no action and nothing is won or loose. If the Raiders win by less than 6 points then you loose your bet.

Sportsbook odds like Money Lines are even much simpler to understand. Teams doesn’t need to win by a number of points, they just need to win the game. For example, offshore sport betting odds show the Patriots with -110 against the Colts with +110. If you bet a $110 on the Patriots and they win you get $100. If you bet $100 on the Colts and they win you get $110. So these sports betting odds are basically balanced to persuade bettors to bet on the underdog too and reach a level between both sides of bets.

Sportsbook odds are made as simpler as possible so bettors can analyze their chances quick. My suggestion is that you try with point spreads in your next bet, you will notice how easy is to understand while catching the instinct is a matter of experience.

See more of Canada on your Ski Holiday

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Canada’s west has long been established as the primary ski region in North America. As ski enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies make their way to Canada’s resorts, we take a look at what’s available in the region when a day away from the slope beckons.

The Canadian regions of British Columbia and Alberta have long been synonymous with skiing in North America and the annual influx of ski enthusiasts to the areas is beginning as we move from Autumn to Winter. The regions are dotted with top class ski resorts and skiers, snowboarders and Heli Ski lovers alike can find an abundance of challenges in Western Canada to suit everyone from beginners to advanced skiers. Skiing is a major tourism draw for Western Canada and purpose built resorts across the area are gearing themselves up for record numbers this winter.

In British Columbia the recognized ski resorts and Snowcat Skiing stretch from Vancouver on the Pacific coast to the Alberta border. Famous resorts such as Whistler and Grouse Mountain are easily accessible from Vancouver itself making a ski holiday combined with a city break in Canada’s third city a distinct possibility. Further afield lie Crystal Mountains and Big White each of which offer Alpine skiing, Cat Ski and Snowboarding along with the traditional North American pastime of Apres ski. As well as the obvious attractions of the resorts themselves, BC has a well established tourism network and offers a wide range of attractions that are worth exploring, as well as the city of Vancouver itself.

Over the Alberta border and the options remain. Banff, often referred to as the most picturesque town in North America is a must on the regular Canadian tourist route but in winter acts as a great base for exploring the slopes of Banff, Sunshine Village and Lake Louise. Further north lies Jasper National Park, home of the Ski Marmot Basin. Jasper is another favorite tourist hotspot offering pictures terrain and an abundance of outdoor activities and pursuits. Calgary is only a short distance from Alberta’s prime ski resorts and offers the visitor another chance to experience a large Canadian city.

The slopes of BC and Alberta are generally accessed via the cities of Vancouver and Calgary respectively. Although the reports are well serviced by public transport and chartered options, with so much to explore in these regions of Western Canada, the best option might be to explore western Canada by hire car. Vancouver and Calgary both have an abundance of car hire options, most notably at their respective airports and driving through the mountainous regions of BC and Alberta can help to add more to the experience of Western Canada beyond the ski resorts.

Sport betting has come a long way since the days when people had to place their bets with bookies that were just interested in taking as much money from customers as possible. Now there you can find a Sportsbook that makes it easy to place bets in a secure environment. A top betting sportsbook protects the client’s privacy and makes sure that all winnings are promptly paid. It also keeps the clients up on the latest inside information.

There is more to a great betting sportsbook than just looking at the betting odds and lines. It will make solid recommendations to bettors that are based on the latest information about teams and individual players. This allows the client who uses a good betting sportsbook to make informed decisions that can lead to winning bets. With the right information and recommendations from a sportsbook you can dramatically increase your odds of making some real money with sports betting.

Information About Skiing

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Transport is essential, regardless of the weather conditions. Sometimes, man has to rise above his surroundings and devise innovative means of transport. This was especially true in places where snow is an almost permanent feature. Skiing originated in Scandinavia as a necessity and since then, has seen a lot of progress in style, technology and use.

The father of modern skiing is said to be Sondre Norheim. He came up with the idea of using bindings that help in turning when skiing downhill, and this was improved upon by Mathias Zdarsky, which led to what is now known as alpine skiing. Hannes Schneider came up with the idea of body rotation for steering. The Arlberg technique became popular as the popularity of the sport also increased.

There are numerous types of skiing events: Alpine skiing (or Downhill skiing), Backcountry skiing (off Piste skiing), Cross-country skiing (Nordic skiing), Extreme skiing, Heliskiing, Newschool skiing, Telemark skiing, Speed skiing, Ski jumping, Ski mountaineering, Ski touring, Snowboarding, Snow kiting, Freestyle skiing and Cat Skiing.

With this came a variety of techniques to enable a correct manner of skiing, and these helped in getting the best out of the sport. It became necessary to have the right clothing and equipment for all-around safety.

Skiing has proved to be a sport where even physically challenged people are able to join in, thanks to technological advances. The use of outriggers, ski tip retention devices, sit skis, single and double color guides and inter-skier communication takes care of most needs of these people.

Ski slopes are color coded to define difficulty levels with green indicating beginners’ slopes and black for the experts. Snow conditions that are favored by all are the packed powder, granular snow, corn snow, and the most challenging of all, crusts.

There are many types of resorts for the uninitiated as well as the experts and competitions are held for every level. Facilities provide the equipment, ensuring medical supervision and well laid out, well marked tracks.
